Slow Blogging.

Well One year and 7 months since my first post. Though this delay fits the theme of this post; it fits a little too well. I hesitate to get involved in on line discussion because of the difficulty in keeping up with those who have a good deal of time to post comments. What is the point of being part of a discussion when you cannot possibly keep up with? We talk about these forums as bringing people together. Is this an overstatement? Have we just created a new forum for solipsism?

This judgment may seem extreme, and probably is. Yet it expresses how I feel participating in these forums, trying to get a word in edgewise, sometimes we just spout off our pet theories and hope someone is reading carefully. Why should they be. We aren’t. We cannot.

Yet the practice of this kind of communication is compelling. Sharing important ideas about how we live, or could live. Having a connection to people all over the world; I love it.

I want this to be a site for slower, thoughtful discussion. To meet this goal I will not be posting more than once a week and probably less often. I also ask that no one respond more than once a week to any given post. Posts should be as concise as possible too.

Let every person be quick to hear, slow to speak, slow to anger;
for the anger of man does not produce the righteousness of God.
James 1:19-20
